The newly established University of Africa, Toru Orua, Bayelsa State, will commence undergraduate programmes by September 2017, Governor Seriake Dickson has said.
Dickson gave the assurance while speaking with journalists during an unscheduled visit to the permanent site of the university at Toru-Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who was accompanied by former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktar Shagari, and former House of Representatives member, Abba Lawan, expressed satisfaction with the quality and level of construction work going on at the site.
He noted with delight that the hostel blocks were almost completed to enable the government to achieve its target of starting the undergraduate programme with adequate accommodation facilities for over 1,000 students.
According to Dickson, the dream of the state government is to provide a world-class university to absorb the top-flight students that will be produced from model boarding secondary schools, including the Ijaw National Academy established by his administration.
