Pace of work on Sango-Ijoko-Akute Road satisfactory – Ogun House Committee

Members of Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the level of work done on the 35- kilometre Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute Road currently undergoing construction.

Mr Olayiwola Ojodu, the Committee Chairman, gave the verdict when he led other members on an on-the-spot assessment tour of the road as part of their oversight functions.

Ojodu said that the road, which would have five flyovers, would, when completed, ease traffic congestion and also promote socio-economic activities in the area.

“The exercise has been quite interesting; so far so good. With what we have seen in terms of the quality of work done, as a committee we are satisfied,” he said.

According to Ojodu, the only area of concern is the flyover at Ijoko, but the contractor has explained that there is a letter to the effect that they should hold on for the rail coming from Lagos.

“They said that it will be for one month, for them to find the alignment.

“Obviously with what we have seen and with the assurances we are having from the contractors, we can say that, yes, we are satisfied, ” he said.

The lawmaker charged the contractors to double up, saying that they should also try to put palliatives where necessary and ensure that the people had some sort of respite.

He urged the contractors to adhere to the tenets of safety of both the workers and the passers-by.

“We had to charge the contractors to double up and they gave us the assurance that because of the rain, some of the works are being done in their project site, to the extent that some things are even ready.

“He told us that materials for the street lights are already in their yard,” Ojodu said.

The lawmaker appreciated the people for their cooperation and patience, adding that whatever they suffered now would soon be a thing of the past.

Committee members on the inspection team included Harrison Adeyemi, Olusola Bankole and Mrs Juliana Akintayo.
