The crisis rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities seems to have deepened, as members of the executive have been removed.
The removal of the executive members was contained in the resolution of a congress held last Wednesday by one of the factions of ASUU on the OAU campus.
A copy of the resolution, which was signed by ASUU-OAU Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, was circulated to members of the union and our correspondent on Monday.
The resolution exonerated only the treasurer of the union, Dr. M.O. Awoyemi, from removal.
According to the resolution, the removal of the executive members led by Dr. Caleb Aborisade is subject to the ratification of the National Executive Council of ASUU.
When contacted on the telephone, Aborisade insisted that he remained the chairman of the branch.
He said, “Whatever they are doing does not hold water. I am still the chairman. From inception, the constitution of the caretaker committee is illegal; so, whatever they are doing is illegal. This is not just a matter for the press, it is an internal matter.”
The resolution read in part, “Congress met on Wednesday, December 14, and after exhaustive deliberations, congress resolved to treat the issue of the suspended members of executive on individual basis.
“Congress resolved through a voice vote to remove the following suspended members of executive of ASUU OAU from office: chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, assistant secretary, financial secretary, welfare officer, investment officer, internal auditor.
“Congress resolved further that the suspended Treasurer be retained as the branch Treasurer on the ground that he was not found culpable of any wrong doing by the investigative panel.
“Congress resolved to forward its decision on the removal of the affected members of executive to the National Executive Council of the union for ratification.”
