The Association of South- East Town Unions has described the threat to expel the Igbo residing in the North as dangerous, saying it portends a threat to national security and unity.
The group, in a nine-point resolution made available to our correspondent in Aba, Abia State, enjoined northern elders to caution Arewa groups against incitement.
The resolution, which was signed by the trustees of the group, including Chief Emeka Diwe and Dr Innocent Onwubuya, stated that the threat to expel the Igbo living in the North was neither provoked nor a retaliation against any offence.
The resolution read in part, “It is our culture to honour the dead. It is our value to celebrate heroism. Why should we be threatened with destruction because of our culture which is not harmful to any of the ethnic regions in Nigeria?
“We want the African Union, United Nations, Economic Community of West Africa States and other international bodies to take note of this threat against the Igbo.”
