Alhaji Beji was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a one-count charge of allegedly aiding and abetting the state’s former Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, in converting to personal use N97 million security vote.

Counsel to the Chairman, Mr. Olajide Ayodele (SAN) had prayed the court to release his client on bail on self-recognition based on the fact that he is well known in the state and could therefore not jump bail.

Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Gbolahan Latona (SAN), opposed the application on the ground that the offence was not bailable, citing Section 341 Sub-Section 2 of the criminal procedure code to buttress his submission.

The counsel, however, said the court could use its discretion to grant the accused person bail.
