The Ohanaeze Youth Council, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Saturday, said it was in support of plans by the National Association of Nigerian Students to ‘occupy’ Kaduna from September 30 to October 3, over the notice to quit given to Igbos in the North by a coalition of Arewa youths.

Igbo residing in the North were warned to vacate the region by October 1, 2017.

The National President of OYC, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, urged NANS to extend the plan to other major cities in the North-East and the North-West.

He said, “It is a welcome development that NANS has come up with a plan to occupy Kaduna in a bid to ensure that there will be no violence at the expiration of the period Igbos were given to leave the North.”

Isiguzoro further stated that the Ohanaeze youth wing intended to hold talks with the Arewa youths before the October 1 deadline.

“Before the expiration of the ultimatum, the Ohanaeze Youth Council would extend a hand of fellowship to the Arewa youths and youth associations of the other ethnic nationalities.

“We believe that the Arewa youths would accept the hand of fellowship that we are extending to them – let us, as the leaders of tomorrow, put heads together and dialogue so as to avert possible loss of lives and destruction of property as a result of this matter,” he said.

The NANS President, Kadiri, had at a news conference in Enugu, explained that the association decided to occupy Kaduna because the ‘quit notice’ emanated from the city.
